Activity Log and Audit Trail Guide

A practical guide for using the activity log as an audit support tool without turning it into a technical exercise.

Security & Access Audit and Review End-User Guide

Overview

The activity log is a review tool. It helps users and support staff understand actions that happened in the system without changing the underlying record.

Where To Find It

Path: Administration > Activity Log

Use the activity log when you need to review user activity, follow up on a change, or understand what happened during a process.

How It Works

QBM records activities that can later be reviewed in the log. Users can filter or review entries to find who acted, what happened, and when the event occurred.

Main Areas

Area What It Means When To Use It
Log entries Shows the recorded activity history available for review. Use it to trace events or confirm that an action happened.
User and time review Helps connect the activity to a user and a time frame. Use it when answering who-did-what questions.
Operational follow-up Supports investigation without editing the live business record. Use it during support, review, or audit follow-up.

Recommended Workflow

  1. Open the activity log and narrow the review period if the event is recent or date-specific.
  2. Review the entries to identify the relevant action or user activity.
  3. Use the log as supporting evidence while checking the underlying business screen if necessary.
  4. Document the conclusion of the review according to your company policy.

Best Practice

  • Start with a narrow time range to make review easier.
  • Use the log to support understanding, not as a substitute for reviewing the actual business document when needed.
  • Keep audit reviews factual and tied to the visible recorded entries.
