Overview
Held receipts are useful when a sale needs to pause temporarily, for example while the customer continues shopping, changes payment method, or needs additional items reviewed.
Main purposePause a POS sale without losing the transaction context.
Important areasHeld receipt list, receipt recall, review, and completion.
Business valueBetter cashier flexibility and less need to restart interrupted sales.
Where To Find It
Common Path: POS > Held Receipts
Cashiers usually open Held Receipts when they need to resume a paused sale.
Note: Held receipts should be reviewed regularly so old unfinished sales do not remain in the queue longer than necessary.
How It Works
A POS receipt can be held instead of completed immediately. Later, the cashier can reopen it, continue editing it, and then finish the sale normally.
- Holding a receipt pauses the sale but keeps the current item selection.
- Recalled receipts should be reviewed before final payment.
- Old held receipts should be cleaned up according to store policy.
Main Areas
| Area | What It Is Used For |
|---|---|
| Held Receipt List | Shows the receipts that were paused and not yet completed. |
| Recall Action | Reopens the selected held receipt in POS. |
| Review Before Completion | Lets the cashier confirm items, quantities, and totals before finishing the sale. |
| Completion | Finishes the sale once the customer is ready. |
Important Fields And Controls
| Field Or Control | What It Means | When To Use It |
|---|---|---|
| Receipt Reference | The identifier of the held sale. | Use it to find the correct paused transaction. |
| Customer / Context | The customer or sale context where available. | Use it to confirm the correct held receipt. |
| Date / Time | When the receipt was originally held. | Use it to identify older held sales. |
| Recall / Open | The action used to continue the sale. | Use it when the customer is ready to complete the transaction. |
Recommended Workflow
- Open Held Receipts in POS.
- Find the paused receipt using the available reference or timing clues.
