POS New Customer Quick Add Guide

A cashier-friendly guide to creating a simple customer record during checkout.

Inventory & POS Cashier and Counter Setup End-User Guide

Overview

The quick-add customer window lets the cashier create a basic customer record without leaving the sale flow. This is useful when the customer needs a named receipt, account history, or contact details saved immediately.

Helpful note: Use quick add for simple customer creation at the counter. Use the full customer setup screen later when more complete credit, pricing, or tax information is required.

How to add a new customer quickly during a POS sale so the transaction can continue without leaving the counter workflow.

How It Works

The cashier opens the customer-add dialog from the POS sale, enters the basic customer details needed at the counter, saves the record, and returns to the sale with that customer selected.

Main Areas

Area What It Means When To Use It
Basic customer details Captures the main information needed to create the customer quickly. Use it for name, contact details, and any minimum fields required at the counter.
Save and return Creates the customer and returns to the active POS transaction. Use it when the sale should continue immediately after customer creation.
POS customer selection Links the newly created customer to the current receipt. Use it when the receipt or account history should be tied to that customer.

Recommended Workflow

  1. During the POS sale, choose the option to add a new customer.
  2. Enter the customer name and the key details your process requires.
  3. Save the customer record from the quick-add dialog.
  4. Confirm that the new customer is now selected on the active sale.
  5. Continue the transaction and complete the receipt as normal.

Best Practice

  • Enter enough information to identify the customer clearly.
  • Use the full customer screen later if more setup is required.
  • Avoid creating duplicate customer names when the customer already exists.
