Inventory & POS Cashier Speed Setup End-User Guide

Overview

Speed keys help cashiers select common items quickly without relying only on barcode scanning or search. They are especially useful for counters with repeat items or service menus.

Where To Find It

Path: POS Options > View > Speed Keys and POS > Speed Keys

Use the POS View settings and the speed-key maintenance screens when you want fast item access for common selling patterns.

How It Works

QBM can show speed keys using icon or thumbnail style and can place categories in different positions. The speed-key maintenance screens determine which items appear and how the cashier reaches them.

Main Areas

Area What It Means When To Use It
Speed-key layout Controls whether the cashier sees a larger visual layout or a simpler icon-driven view. Use it to match the counter style and screen size.
Category display Controls where categories appear relative to the item area. Use it when the business wants faster navigation by group rather than by search.
Speed-key item list Defines which items or shortcuts are available on the POS screen. Use it for best sellers, quick services, or menu-style selling.

Recommended Workflow

  1. Decide which items should be available as quick-access buttons.
  2. Review the POS speed-key list and organize the items by the logic your cashiers use most.
  3. Choose the preferred speed-key view in POS Options.
  4. Test the layout on the actual POS screen and adjust the categories if navigation feels slow.

Best Practice

  • Keep the speed-key set focused on the items that are actually sold frequently.
  • Avoid overcrowding the screen with rarely used buttons.
  • Recheck speed keys whenever new seasonal or promotional items become important.
