A day-start guide for cashiers and supervisors so the till begins with the correct float and the counter is ready for the first sale.

Inventory & POS Cashier Opening End-User Guide

Overview

Recording the opening amount helps QBM and the cashier start the shift with a known till balance. This supports better batch close and cash control later in the day.

Where To Find It

Path: POS > Opening Amount and POS > Cash Sale

Use the opening amount screen at the start of a shift or whenever your company requires the counter float to be recorded before selling.

How It Works

The cashier or supervisor enters the opening cash values before active trading begins. Once the counter is ready, normal POS sales can start using the assigned counter and payment setup.

Main Areas

Area What It Means When To Use It
Opening amount entry Records the cash or starting float available at the beginning of the shift. Use it before the first sale of the day or before a new cashier session starts.
Counter readiness Confirms the workstation, printer, and payment setup are ready for trade. Use it as part of shift preparation so sales do not start with missing setup.
Batch impact The opening amount becomes part of the broader control process when reviewing or closing the batch. Use it to support accurate end-of-day reconciliation.

Recommended Workflow

  1. Sign in to the correct POS workstation and confirm the right counter is selected.
  2. Open the opening amount or shift-start screen before processing live sales.
  3. Enter the float or starting cash using the values approved for that counter.
  4. Confirm the drawer, printer, and receipt setup are ready.
  5. Start selling only after the opening amount has been recorded correctly.

Best Practice

  • Record the opening amount before the first customer transaction.
  • Use the same opening process every day so end-of-day review stays consistent.
  • If the counter starts with a different float from normal, make sure the supervisor approves it.
